OPPORTUNITY - Womxn To Watch Award 2023

The META foundation is excited to call for applications for its 3rd annual Womxn to Watch award. The award is given to one top performing womxn artist annually. The award aims to shine a light on the top womxn talent operating within the South African context. The residency will run from 01 July 2023 –  30 September 2023 and will provide the successful artist with a studio space for 3 months as well as a solo exhibition. The application process will run until mid-night 16 January 2023.

Applications will be assessed by a body of visual arts industry professionals and ONLY the successful applicant will be contacted.

Award requirements – The artist must:

  • be a womxn artist
  • have only been practising for 5 years or less
  • be based in Johannesburg or able to travel to Johannesburg. Please be advised that no accommodation will be provided during the residency period. Should the artist decide to travel, they need to be aware that no funding will be provided for travel, accommodation or living expenses.
  • produce a body of work for exhibition along with the advice and expertise of the curator

The award provides the artist with the following for a period of 3 months:

  • a studio space, at End Street Studios, which includes parking, electricity and water and uncapped internet
  • the opportunities to participate in any group exhibitions curated by the META foundation
  • the opportunity to participate in any August House activities
  • a solo exhibition
  • featured (included in) August House/Meta foundation website and publicity materials
  • support from the META foundation team
