The META foundation is putting out a call for applications for its partially funded Artist in residence.

Applicants must apply online in order to be considered


The successful artist will receive for a period of 3 months:

  • a studio space, at End Street Studios, which includes parking, electricity and water and uncapped internet
  • the opportunities to participate in any group exhibitions curated by the META foundation
  • the opportunity to participate in any August House activities
  • show the outcomes of their residency to the public at the end of the residency period at a small open studios event
  • featured (included in) August House/Meta foundation website and publicity materials
  • support from the META foundation team

Residency requirements – The artist must:

  • be based in Johannesburg or able to travel to Johannesburg. Please be advised that no accommodation will be provided during the residency period. Should the artist decide to travel, they need to be aware that no funding will be provided for travel, accommodation or living expenses.
  • Produce work for an Open Studio event where the public will be invited to attend.
  • Donate a work to the programme to the value of R10 000, to be choosen by the META foundation.
  • Make a contribution of R4500 per a month or R13 500 for 3 months

The residency does not provide funding for:

  • transport funding
  • living expenses
  • medical expenses or travel insurance
  • material costs
