Contra.Joburg 2024 has wrapped up, and it was a wild ride! The theme “Expect the Unexpected” set the tone for a day of innovative art, music, and community on Saturday, 30 August, from 10:00am-5pm. The event featured a range of participating studios, including Asisebenze Art Gallery, which offered a gallery space and coffee shop, with street parking available; Bag Factory, which opened its artist studios, gallery, and drinks, also with street parking; EspressOn, which brought live music, food, drinks, and a gallery, with street parking; Play Braamfontein, which offered studios, drinks, and food, with street parking; Rand Club, which hosted a gallery, live music, food, and drinks, with street parking; Creative Uprising Hub @Transwerke, which opened its studios, with secure underground parking available; and Stephan Welz & Co, which showcased an exhibition, with underground parking available. To make navigating the event easy, a complimentary shuttle service ran throughout the day, looping between venues every 20 minutes, with shuttle access from every stop. Parking was available at each site. The event was family-friendly, with children under 18 admitted free; attendees were required to select their adult tickets first, then list how many children they wanted to bring, and unaccompanied minors were not allowed into the event. Overall, it was an amazing day of art, music, and community, and a huge thank you to everyone who came out and made it happen!
