The META foundation is a dynamic visual arts organisation that programmes for artists based at Johannesburg’s creative landmark building of August House studios. Within this context and as part of the broader visual art eco-system the META foundation works across three primary pillars which centre on collaborating with ARTISTS, instigating projects, exhibiting ARTWORKS, art practice-focused workshops & public art commissions while inspiring diverse AUDIENCES & Collectors to meet artists who work across mediums.
Founded in 2006, August House currently supports over 40 artists in its space, located at 76 End Street, Doornfontein, Johannesburg. Some of its notable past tenants include artists such as Kudzanai Chiurai, Mary Sibanda, Dineo Bopape, Dorothee Kruitzfeld, Gabi Ngcobo, Nelson Makamo, Themba Khumalo and Nicholas Hlobo and current tenants Sam Nlhengethwa, Diane Victor and Solomon Omogboye amongst others.
